ABILENE – The Floydada Futures 12U softball team gets their second chance at the Texas West state tournament that begins on Wednesday.

The last week of June, Floydada won the Section 1 championship in Ralls with convincing wins over Pecos and Childress to qualify for state again like they did in 2019 in the 10U division.

The Futures have played very well in the Little League playoffs with a 7-0 record of claiming the District 38 and Section 1 titles. Veteran youth sports coach Erica Perez has described the Futures as determined, coachable, disciplined and cohesive – all strong attributes in success.

Floydada will be the smallest town in the field of four at the Texas West State tournament that also includes Alice, Waco Midway and San Antonio 5-Diamonds Little League teams. The tournament is double-elimination that will be played Wednesday through Saturday (July 13-16). Floydada’s first game will be at 8pm on Wednesday against Alice.

The Futures will be departing Floydada at 2pm on Wednesday with a police escort sendoff down Highway 70 from Pumpkin Pyle on the north to Dairy Queen on the south side of town. Floydada fans are encouraged to wear green and line the street to express their support and appreciation of accomplishments by this young ballclub.
