FLOYDADA – It’s a full-day fundraiser for the entire family, and it kicks off Saturday at noon at Floydada’s St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. The church’s annual “Jamaica” will run until 10:00 p.m. Saturday night, and feature events ranging from live music to a washers tournament, with plenty of great food thrown in.

Floydada Police Chief Reuben Ramon, one of the leaders of the church, spoke with the Record about the Jamaica, and what it means for St. Mary Magdalen. “It’s our annual fundraiser to help keep the doors open. All the proceeds that are gathered from the Jamaica goes toward the church.”

In addition to the events mentioned above, the church will be hosting a car show during the day featuring a number of trucks and motorcycles. They’ll have a cornhole tournament this year in addition to the washers tournament, with the winners receiving customized belt buckles. The annual Bingo tournament will also be taking place, with a number of prizes available.

Live music will start at 1:00 p.m. and run throughout the day with the following bands:

Mariachi Mi Tierra
Conjunto 87
LBK Los Pibes
Rival
Los Garcia Bros.

In addition, the church raffle will start at 9:00 p.m., with a first prize of $2,000.

“We’re inviting everyone to come out and enjoy the full day with us,” said Ramon, who reminded people to bring lawn chairs. “It’s going to be hot, but there will be plenty of shade.”
