LOCKNEY – As Lockney ISD gets ready for the 2022-2023 school year to begin, the Junior High and High School are making some changes and reiterating some previous policy notes before the first bell rings.

Both schools have adopted a ‘no cell phone or earbuds’ policy in class and in the hall. If students are caught using a phone it will be taken to the principal’s office and held for the rest of the school day. A second offense will require a parent to pick the phone up.

In addition to the junior high adopting a ‘closed campus’ at lunch, the school will also now require students to keep backpacks in lockers or in the back of the classroom during instruction. With the closed campus lunch policy parents will be allowed to either drop off lunch for students at the school office or pick their kids up.

The first day for the school year will be Tuesday, with breakfast served before first period. Junior High students will begin their first day in the gym with an assembly where the new policies will be explained.

The schools are also asking students and parents to review the dress code.

The schools explained the changes in a statement to parents on Facebook. “We will be focusing on school safety all throughout the year so you will be seeing more posts about how Lockney is dedicated to keeping our community protected.”
