FLOYDADA – It was a surprise, but a welcomed one.
On Friday evening at Floydada Collegiate High School’s ‘Meet the Whirlwinds’ event, principal Dara Ware was surprised by directors Franklin Piland and Kathryn Grice with an award courtesy the Whirlwind Band.
Ware was given the Texas Music Educators Association’s (TMEA) Distinguished Administrator Award for her commitment to the band program at both the Junior High and High School levels. According to the TMEA, administrators have “great influence over a program’s opportunity for success” and they like to recognize outstanding administrators for their dedication and support.
In addition to the surprise award, Grice also read Ware a letter of congratulations from TMEA Executive Director Robert Floyd. Piland then handed Ware a giant “Symphony” candy bar and a card of thanks signed by each member of the Whirlwind band.
