FLOYD COUNTY – With no classes for either school, and in spite of the rain that fell across the county, Floydada and Lockney’s bands both put the final touches on their programs for the 2022 UIL Region 16 Marching Contest on Monday.

Floydada’s band rehearsed their show – called Alien Invasion – Monday evening with help from Eastern New Mexico University Band Director Dustin Seifert. Seifert was on hand to give the Whirlwinds tips on presentation and sound as they prepare for Saturday’s contest. Director of Bands Franklin Piland was quick to praise his band for their work this fall, telling them on multiple occasions during Monday’s rehearsal he was proud of the work his students had put in.

Lockney’s show – known as Agent Zero – has already pulled in accolades at invitational marching contests across the region this fall. The Longhorn Band won first place in 2A at the Denver City Marching Festival last month, and came in second place in the classification at Lubbock High School’s Westerner Marching Festival on Saturday.

This weekend the two bands will march 30 minutes apart at Lubbock’s Lowrey Field. Floydada will take the field at 11:35, with Lockney marching at 12:05. Tickets for the UIL event can be found at VancoEvents.com. If either school advances to the Area Marching Contest, they will compete on October 29, also at Lowrey Field.
