FLOYDADA,TX – Underneath the Friday night lights, the Whirlwinds (5-3,2-1) claimed the district win over the Tahoka Bulldogs(4-4,1-2) by a score of 42-18.
Thanks to a Saul Reyes pick-six late in the first quarter, the Winds took the lead 7-6 and never looked back. Andres Mendoza had a big night for Floydada as he would have four rushing touchdowns and participated in the team’s total rushing yards of 258. Izaih Alvarado would also contribute to the scoring as he punched in a 9-yard rushing touchdown, putting the Whirlwinds up 23-12 with 5:28 left in the third quarter.
With this big district win tonight, the Floydada Whirlwinds now stands second in the district behind New Deal.
Next Friday, Floydada will once again have their focus on defending their home turf as they host Post at 7:00 pm.
