FLOYDADA, TX – The #16 Floydada Whirlwinds (14-4, 1-0) were victorious in their district opener on Tuesday against the #7 New Deal Lions (9-4, 0-1).
At the end of the first half, the Winds battled for a two-point lead and would go into the locker room up 28–26.
The third quarter was a big one for the Whirlwinds, as they outscored New Deal 24-17 and would enter the final quarter with a 52-43 lead.
However, the Lions weren’t completely out of the game and made a crucial run in the fourth quarter to ultimately tie the game and take it to overtime.
Floydada edged out New Deal in the overtime period by one point and held on for the win, 79-78, in the district opener.
