Margaret Rodgers Burton (Lubbock)

Margaret Louise (McKinney) Rodgers Burton, 100, went to her heavenly home on Friday, December 16, 2022. Margaret was born August 10, 1922, in Floyd County, Floydada, Texas, to John James and Virginia Lee (Wade) McKinney. Margaret was delivered at home by their neighbor Dr. George Smith. Margaret was the youngest of nine children; she had six sisters and two brothers. She grew up in Floydada, Texas, and graduated from Floydada High School in 1940. After graduation, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to attend Business School. Margaret worked as a certified bookkeeper for many years. She enjoyed working for Cal-Main Foods and retired in 1977, then later decided to return to work at Hollon’s Home Furnishing until her retirement in 1984.

On June 6, 1948, Margaret married Clyde Rodgers. They spent forty-two years together, enjoying family and friends, traveling, and researching family history. Clyde passed away on March 27, 1990. Margaret continued to travel, spend time with friends and family, and research family history. Margaret enjoyed attending Lady Raider Basketball games and her church and loved her chihuahua. Margaret had many chihuahuas over her years of life, she loved every one of them, and they brought her pleasure.

Margaret married her second husband, Lee Burton, on November 27, 1993. Margaret and Lee enjoyed fifteen years together, traveling, spending time with family, and going to endless amounts of tractor shows. Lee passed away on January 5, 2018.

Margaret was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of Lifepoint Baptist Church. She enjoyed helping others find Christ and knowing they would also receive the blessing of eternal life.

Margaret is survived by step-daughter Sharron & Don Pattillo, grandson Ronnie Pattillo, and many nieces and nephews: Harold & Vivian Snell, B.J. & Karen McKinney, Jerry & Darlene Solomon, Janice McKinney, Sue & Mike Carver, Susie & Larry Moss, and Debbie & Mike McKamy.

A visitation for Margaret will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. A celebration of life service will occur Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 1:00 PM, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. A graveside committal service will occur Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Larry Moss, Cecil Martinez, Jr, Randy Webb, Mike Carver, Ronnie Pattillo, Harold Snell, B.J. McKinney, Jerry Solomon, Joe Matyus, Don Patillo, and Doyle Rodgers.
