MERTZON, TX – The Floydada Whirlwinds were in action during the winter break in the Irion County Tournament.
The Whirlwinds matched up against McMullen County in the first round, where they would win 70-54.
The second round matchup had the Winds facing off against the Cross Plains Buffaloes, and Floydada was victorious, 88-37.
For the third round, Floydada would battle the Rocksprings Angoras, and for the second time this year, the Whirlwinds posted over 100 points in a game as they defeated Rocksprings 105-84.
The semi-final game on Thursday had Floydada versus Christoval, and the Whirlwinds would once again find the win column as they handled the Cougars 80-55.
Championship Friday was a rematch of round one as the Whirlwinds battled the McMullen County Cowboys, and the result was 65-38 in favor of Floydada.
The Whirlwinds handed McMullen County their only two losses of the season.
Abran Castillo and Aiden Trevino made the All Tournament Team.
Braun Hobbs was the tournament’s MVP.
