“Diane” was born to Fletcher and Hazel Powell on November 08, 1958, in Sherman, TX.  She was the 7th of 9 Children.  A farmer’s daughter, she moved to the area she would call home for the rest of her life when her family settled in South Plains, TX, in 1960.

Diane worked for Floydada ISD for over 20 years until she retired in 2020. She made many great friends there and enjoyed working with all the children.

Diane accepted Jesus as her savior and was Baptized at the First Baptist Church in South Plains. She loved growing up in the country surrounded by her family, especially her sisters. She graduated from Floydada High School in 1977 and would always remain a faithful fan of the mighty Whirlwinds. Later that year, she would give birth to her first pride and joy, Richard “Buster” Dale Powell.  In 1985 she would meet the love of her life, Carl Hill, to whom she faithfully devoted until her last breath. In 1992 Diane and Carl welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Christi Lynn Hill, whom she adored.  As Happy as her children made her, nothing could compare to the joy each of her grandkids brought. She loved going to support them in whatever they were doing!  In the last year, Diane received one of the greatest gifts she could imagine when Buster and Charity were married, as she saw her family grow to include even more grandchildren and a couple of great-grandchildren. She loved them all just like her very own.

There was nothing more important to Diane than her family. She has had a special relationship with each of her siblings. She was also a doting aunt to a bushel of nieces and nephews. Everyone always knew you could count on “Aunt Diane,” whether you needed a fan in the stands,  an ear to listen, a word of encouragement, or a swift kick to remind you of your manners!

For some of her family, she was an anchor that kept them from drifting too far off course.  To others, a safe harbor when a storm would stir up the sea. However, to all of her family, she was a steady wind in their sails, guiding and encouraging them through this voyage called life.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher and Hazel Powell; her Brothers, George Ray Powell and Johnny Edward Powell; and her brother-in-law, Garry Gilbreath.

She is survived by her loving husband, Carl Hill of Floydada; son, Buster Powell, and wife, Charity of Lubbock; Daughter, Christi Hill and fiancé Cameron of Lubbock; grandchildren, Chris Emert, Brock Powell, Kaelyn Hill, Aaron Martinez, Brooklyn McDaniel, Maliyah McDaniel, Robi Roberts and husband Joe, & Scott Emert and wife Amanda; great-grandchildren; LB and Judd Conway Roberts.
