OLTON, TX – The #5-ranked Floydada Whirlwinds (22-5, 4-1) battled against the #14-ranked Olton Mustangs (16-4, 5-0) on Friday night.
The Whirlwinds came out of the opening tip with a run and would take the lead at the end of the first quarter, 22-13.
The Mustangs defense was able to apply pressure to the Winds in the second quarter and hold them to just 9 points.
The Whirlwinds were able to stay close in the second half, but it was the Mustangs who were able to pull off the win with a final score of 72-68.
Floydada was led by senior Abran Castillo, who had 21 points and five rebounds.
The loss puts the Winds (4-1) in second place (Olton now leads at 5-0) within the district standings, with nine remaining district games left to play.
