LITTLEFIELD, TX – The #12 Floydada Whirlwinds (33-5, 14-1) played the Bovina Mustangs (16-16, 3-8) in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday in Littlefield.
The Mustangs were able to start the game on a run and would lead 19-15 at the end of the first quarter.
It was a game-high 25 points in the second quarter for Floydada, as they would tie the game going into halftime at 40.
In the third quarter, the Floydada defense held the Mustangs to 9 points and took the lead, 62-49.
The Whirlwinds would hold off a fourth quarter run from Bovina to secure the first-round victory, 75-67.
Floydada’s sophomore Braun Hobbs led the team in scoring with 36 points and 10 rebounds in the victory on Tuesday.
The Whirlwinds will battle Stratford in the second round.
