I have been on a journey to have a Christ-like love for every person in my life, and though it’s easy to think we love others, to do it consistently – for me – is a challenge.

Whether it involves those who don’t pay attention when they drive, or those who mistreat others, I continue to find myself in frustration: why don’t they do what is right?

Of course, anytime I ask a question like this, the Lord is quick to show me my reflection in the mirror, which is why Paul wrote in his letter to the Church in Ephesus: “Conduct yourselves with all humility, gentleness, and patience. Accept each other with love (Ephesians 4:2).”

Paul also wrote a letter to Timothy to help the young Church leader better understand his duties and explained that “this is why I was shown mercy so that Christ Jesus could show his endless patience to me first. So I’m an example for those who will believe in him for eternal life (1 Timothy 1:16).”

We are all created differently for a reason – our souls are not pressed out like Oreo cookies – and He created us with these differences for HIs purpose.

That’s why we’re called to practice patience, humility, and gentleness to reflect unity – which our world desperately needs today.

Maybe today, we should stop praying for others to be people we like and instead start praying to see every person we meet the way we want Him to see us.
