Feedyard Technician Program Provides FCHS Students Future Skills

CANYON, TX – Six Floydada Collegiate High School students participated in the 2023 TCFA Feedyard Technician Program, sponsored by Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA) in cooperation with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and West Texas A&M University. Through their involvement, high school juniors and seniors develop the knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for a potential career in the fed cattle industry.

FCHS Senior Marcus Collins and Juniors Kyler Gillespie, Kason Hughes, Ilan Lopez, Jaxson Smith, and Derrik Suarez received hands-on experience in Safe Handling of Farm Animals, Working Cattle Effectively, Basic Cattle Behavior and Handling, Working Cattle with a Bud Box & Hydraulic Chute., and they completed the TCFA Beef Quality Assurance (or BQA) Program.

The students are led locally by Alejandra Ramirez, Floydada Agriculture Science Teacher.
