FLOYD COUNTY, TX – May 2023 will be remembered as the third wettest May in the past 25 years.

In an effort to begin breaking a drought, the county received 6.22″ of moisture over the month – roughly half of the record-setting 12″ recorded in 2015.

The month of June is off to a good start after the country received .22″ on Thursday. Though the rain has caused some areas of flooding, O’Donnell picked up over 7″ of rainfall to begin the new month, which led to the closure of highways and localized flooding.

The current drought has been due to a La Nina weather system over the past three years, and the change in tide has moved the region into an El Nino pattern which normally provides average or above-average moisture throughout the year.
