LOCKNEY, TX – The Floyd County Record continues to spotlight the athletes that represent our communities, including Lockney’s junior Xavier Jimenez.

Xavier is a fullback on the offense and plays as a linebacker for the Longhorn defense.

Coming off a bye week, what are some things that the team has done to prepare?

We want to know how our opponents play; like the back of our hand, we want to go out there and execute and do what we’ve been taught.

What is something that sets this team apart from the other teams in the district?

We finish out our blocks; we don’t stand around and watch people run the ball; our wide receivers are blocking and will finish the play, and that turns into big chunk plays.

When on offense, how important is it that you play your role?

It helps a lot when I don’t have the ball. I block, and that one block can turn into a touchdown throw or a big play.

As an important part of the varsity team, what are some things that you try to emphasize to the JV?

It’s important to show them that it’s not like JV; don’t play around; no messing around in practice; we have to know the plays; Friday nights are much different than Thursday’s.

Do you have anyone that you model your game after?

I watch the Cowboys, protecting the ball. I always see how Tony Pollard protects the ball with two hands, and ball security is a big focus for me.
