Rance Pernell (Dougherty)

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, our Rock, Protector, Husband, Dad, Son, and Brother, Rance Pernell, was called to the Lord at 49. Rance Lynn Pernell, age 49, passed away on December 9, 2023. A Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Matador, officiated by Layne Holland and Levi Sisemore, with graveside to follow at the Dougherty cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, in the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada.

Rance was so many things to so many people, not just his family but the entire community of Dougherty, TX.  He was born July 15, 1974, to Randy and Revis Pernell. In March of 1983, he gained another mother, Denise. Rance graduated from Floydada High School in 1992 and attended Lubbock Christian University.  He joined his father, uncle, and grandad in ownership of Darty Gin. Soon after, on July 25, 1998, he married his angel, Marijon. Later, his family would be complete with two sons, Drew and Gavin. He got so much joy out of watching the boys grow up. We have never seen him laugh harder than he would when telling stories of their antics. The boys and Marijon brought out a softer side of Rance that few had ever seen.

When his dad died, Rance worked tirelessly to fill every role left behind. He cared for the gin, checked on his nieces and nephews, cared for his mom, Denise, and tried his best to take care of his little sisters. When he wasn’t working or cheering the boys on at a game, his happiest times were at the ranch with his family.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Randy, and his mom, Revis; his granddads, Charles Chandler, Jesse Pernell, and Dennis Mahaffey; and an uncle, Gary Dawson.

Rance is survived by his wife, Marijon Pernell; his sons, Drew Pernell and Gavin Pernell; his mom, Denise Pernell; his sisters, Reagan Pernell Howard (Richard) and Reagan Pernell Williams; and his nieces, Aspen Howard, Haley Williams, and Amelia Williams; and a nephew, Talon Howard. He is also survived by his father-in-law, John Myatt, and wife, Oleta; sisters-in-law, Jennifer Skelton (Jason) and Ashley Beckman (Bryan); his nephews, Jackson and Owen Skelton and Gage Beckman; and his nieces, Mia Skelton and London Beckman.  He’s also survived by his grandmothers, Sue Wheeler, Donna Pernell, Betty Mahaffey, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Matador Church of Christ to honor Rance’s memory.
