FLOYDADA, TX –  Library director Ren Ortiz recently applied for and received a $40,000 grant from the Ladd & Katherine Hancher Library Foundation. This grant serves populations of 50,000 or less and focuses on helping to facilitate technology for smaller libraries. Ren has already begun implementing a learning center to enrich children in 1st-5th grades. This includes 2 computers and 2 tablets shown in the picture. These computers are preloaded with AWE, an enrichment program that includes Math, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Music. The library hopes to work with the school to inform kids and parents about the new center.

Other plans include updating and adding to the children’s and Young Adult books.

Ren also hopes to make the Conference Room more media-friendly by adding a drop-down screen with a projector to handle presentations and expand the room’s use for community events.
