FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Whirlwinds hosted a district battle against New Deal on Tuesday.
The Whirlwinds started the game with a big offensive run, but the Lions fought back to cut the lead 17-13 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was a battle between the two teams as they would go into the locker room with Floydada ahead 29-27.
A 13-0 run was the way the third quarter began as the Whirlwinds controlled the second half on both ends of the floor and outscored the Lions 27-15, going into the fourth quarter up 56-42.
New Deal attempted the comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Whirlwinds would secure the victory 76-62 over the Lions.
Floydada’s junior Braun Hobbs had 26 points and 7 rebounds in the win on Tuesday.
Also contributing to the win was junior Ty Henderson with 17 points and 3 rebounds, as well as senior Aiden Trevnio, contributing 13 points and 3 rebounds.
Floydada moves to 7-1 in district play and 19-7 overall and will travel to Lockney on Friday.
New Deal falls to 3-5 in district and 6-18 overall.
