LUBBOCK, TX – The Floydada Robotics Teams have concluded its second year participating in the First Tech Challenge and are taking the success from this year and looking to apply it to next years’ teams.

Floydada had two teams compete this year with both of them reaching the semifinals in the competition.

The team known as “Electrocats” were awarded the “Judges Award” for their Charisma and their robot knowledge.

Ismael Vega coaches the teams and says, “We hope to continue to learn and excel even more next year! It’s way more than building robots.”

First Tech Challenge teams are composed of up to 15 team members (grades 7-12) and are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.

Each year teams are given a new task to follow and it is up to the teams to find the best solution while scoring the most points to win the competetion.

Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.
