Vonda Marlene McLaughlin, age 64, peacefully left her physical body and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 24, 2024. A celebration of life was held on Friday, March 29th, at the First Baptist Church in Lockney.

Vonda was born to Richard and Collene Mahagan on October 8, 1959 in Plainview, Texas. Vonda lived in Hale County and attended Ash Elementary School until her family moved to Floyd County, where she attended Lockney Junior High and High School. On March 3, 1979, Vonda and her high school sweetheart, Donnie McLaughlin, were married at First Baptist Church Lockney. That was the start of a 45-year journey filled with countless fun, laughs, and never-ending love. Even though Donnie and Vonda were never blessed with their children, they were blessed with numerous nieces and nephews that they loved and spoiled rotten.

Vonda ran the Aiken Post Office for several years before she became a contract Postal Carrier in 1995. In those 29 years of service, she has sorted mail in Lockney, Quitaque, and Flomot. On her 130-mile daily journey delivering the U.S. Mail, she made innumerable friends along her route that she loved, and they loved her and treated her like family. In Vonda & Donnie’s 45 years together, they went fishing, water skiing, off-road riding, and motorcycle riding with friends and family. They made many trips to enjoy NASCAR racing, where she had a full-time job taking care of her extended family of brothers, AKA the Rainwaters.

Vonda was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Colleen Mahagan, all her grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Vonda is survived by her husband Donnie; brother Ronald and his wife Tonya; sister Licinda and her husband Johnny; 3 nieces- Kendra, Brigit, and Kasey; 2 nephews- Jeremy and Brandon; great niece Brittney and great nephews Anthony, Blake, Jalen, Kason, and Logan; her uncle Dub Dipprey; mother-in-law Rosalee and her husband Al; brother-in-law Danny; sister-in-law Teresa and her husband Tom; and numerous cousins. Vonda was so loved by a huge group of children of all ages in the surrounding area that they called her Aunt Vonda.
