Juanell (Cunyus) Kelley (Dimmitt)

Juanell Kelley passed away on March 30, 2024, in Levelland, Texas, and her celebration of life was held on April 5, 2024, at Dimmitt Church of Christ in Dimmitt.

Juanell Cunyus Kelley was born Jan 18, 1937, in Lockney, Texas to Betha Anna Carthel Cunyus and Frank Allen Cunyus. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up in Lockney, Texas, and graduated from Lockney High School in 1955. She married Ewell Hunt Kelley in August 1958 and graduated from Texas Technological College in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

She and Ewell lived in Lubbock until moving to Dimmitt, Texas, in 1967.

She taught typing, short-hand, and business law at Dimmitt High School for 27 years. Following retirement in 1996, she worked as a substitute teacher for another ten years. She loved teaching and loved her students. She was a longtime supporter of the Dimmitt Athletic programs and rarely missed a sports event involving the Dimmitt Bobcats and Bobbies.  She loved her children and her grandchildren. She attended every event she could to watch them play ball, cheer, swim, and sing. She loved family get-togethers and reunions. She had the best Christmas Eve games with prizes; her Christmas carols were printed and ready to sing.

She is survived by her son, Greg Kelley, and wife, Kelly, of Levelland. Her daughters are Cindy Broussard, her husband Andre of Lubbock,  and Kristi Cox and her husband Frank of Tomball. Her grandchildren are Sam Kelley and his wife Billie, Ben Kelley, Bethany Broussard, Katy Cox, and Charlie Cox.

She was excited to find out she had a great-grandchild arriving in August.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three siblings.
