AMARILLO, TX — The Floydada Whirlwinds saw their 2024 season come to a close Thursday night at Hodgetown in Amarillo, falling 13-1 to the Sunray Bobcats in Game Two of the Bi-district playoff round.

Sunray came out swinging early, jumping to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never letting up. Despite being held hitless by the Bobcat pitching staff, the Whirlwinds continued to battle every inning, finally breaking through with a run in the top of the fifth to avoid the shutout.

Floydada’s defense worked hard to contain a red-hot Sunray offense that collected 10 hits and took full advantage of four Whirlwind errors. The Bobcats closed the game out in five innings via run rule.

Though the playoff run ends here, the Whirlwinds showed tremendous growth and tenacity throughout the season. Their appearance at Hodgetown was a proud moment for the team and the community, showcasing the heart and hustle that defined this group all year long.

The Floydada community congratulates the Whirlwinds on a season full of effort, unity, and memorable moments. This year’s squad laid the groundwork for a strong future and made Floydada proud every step of the way.
