LOCKNEY, TX – The City of Lockney provides a monthly Rubbish Collection Station for residential customers needing to dispose of large household items that cannot be placed in regular dumpsters. This service is available exclusively to residents of Lockney living in single-family homes and is held on the third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City of Lockney Shop, 1011 HWY 70.

To use the collection station, residents are required to bring a water bill and a driver’s license that both show matching Lockney addresses. They must sign in with the site attendant before unloading. A small fee applies to non-residents who wish to use the facility.

Residents are responsible for unloading their items into the designated containers. Items must be transported in a manner that prevents spills on the roadways, and loads should not exceed the capacity of one pickup truck bed.

The site accepts specific household items, including:

  • Old furniture: Limit of 4 pieces per month.
  • Old appliances: Limit of 2 per month, must be empty, clean, and tagged if freon has been removed.
  • Scrap metal: Limit one load per visit.
  • Fence sections: Limit 100 feet, once per year.
  • Carpet sections: Limit 2 rolls per month.
  • Yard waste: Accepted only in smaller loads.
  • Miscellaneous cleanup waste: Should not exceed one pickup load.

Certain groups are not allowed to use the site, including anyone hauling waste from businesses, rental properties, government or municipal entities. Violations of these regulations may result in prosecution under state law.

The city also reminds residents that placing items outside the fence during closed hours is considered illegal dumping and will be prosecuted.

Prohibited items include building materials, yard waste, automobile parts, hazardous chemicals, and specific appliances such as televisions and air conditioners. The collection station is not a dumping ground for flammable materials, paints, or any chemical waste.

For additional details or questions, residents are encouraged to contact City Hall at 806.652.2355. The program aims to help keep Lockney clean—one Saturday at a time.
