FLOYD COUNTY, TX – The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is proud to participate in the upcoming “Be Safe, Drive Smart” campaign, part of Operation Slow Down, running from July 18 to August 3, 2025. This statewide initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and encourage safer driving habits, particularly during the busy summer travel season.
As part of the campaign, local law enforcement will be increasing efforts to promote traffic safety and reduce speed-related accidents throughout the county. The focus is on encouraging drivers to be more mindful of road conditions, traffic laws, and the safety of others on the road.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is reminding all motorists that smart driving goes beyond simply obeying the speed limit. Key safety tips include:
Adjusting speed for road conditions, especially during bad weather or while driving through construction zones.
Increasing following distance when traffic is heavy or roads are slick to allow more time to stop safely.
Paying close attention to signage that indicates changes in speed limits or alerts to upcoming hazards.
Avoiding costly mistakes—fines double in school zones and active work zones if you’re caught speeding.
Always wear seat belts, whether you’re a driver or passenger, day or night. It’s one of the simplest ways to stay protected in the event of a crash.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office encourages all drivers to take these precautions seriously and help keep local roads safe for everyone. Through increased awareness and responsible driving, the community can work together to prevent accidents and save lives.
