FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Lady Winds will have a new leader on the sidelines this season as Abby Sanders, a Floydada native, has been named the new head coach. Sanders steps into the role following the departure of former head coach Adam Zepeda, who recently accepted a new position in Abernathy.
Floydada ISD Superintendent Dr. Gilbert Trevino expressed confidence in the new hire, highlighting Sanders’ strong ties to the community and passion for the program.
“With Adam officially getting hired in Abernathy, we have decided to promote Abby Sanders to head coach,” said Dr. Trevino. “She has a good vision for the program and is invested in our girls and community. I have no doubt she will build a successful program and build upon the success that our girls program has had.”
Sanders, a product of the Floydada school system herself, brings not only coaching experience but a deep understanding of what it means to wear the Lady Winds uniform. Her commitment to both athletic excellence and player development makes her a strong fit for leading the team into its next chapter.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the Lady Winds basketball program. My journey into coaching has been unconventional, so to now return and serve as head coach for the very team I once played for is a humbling and surreal experience,” Sanders said.
The Lady Winds are set to begin offseason training in the coming weeks as they prepare for the upcoming basketball season under Coach Sanders’ leadership.
