LOCKNEY, TX – Lockney ISD is gearing up for a significant policy shift in response to Texas House Bill 1481, which goes into effect for the 2025–2026 school year. The legislation, recently signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott, mandates stricter control over student use of personal communication devices on school property during the instructional day.
Under the new law, students will be prohibited from using devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, gaming devices, and wireless earbuds during school hours. The legislation requires schools across Texas to enforce policies that either limit or fully restrict the use of such devices during the instructional day.
Lockney ISD is currently in Phase I of implementing this policy. Once the school board finalizes and approves the new guidelines, additional details will be shared with students, families, and staff to ensure a smooth transition.
The district appreciates the continued support of parents and the community as it works to create a focused, distraction-free learning environment in compliance with the new state law.
