LOCKNEY, TX – The Lockney Longhorns are set to hit the field as they host the Ropes Eagles in a preseason scrimmage on Thursday, August 21, at 5:00 p.m. in Lockney.

The evening will begin with the junior varsity squads, followed by the varsity teams approximately 15 minutes after the JV concludes. Both teams will go through a series of scripted plays before finishing with a live quarter of game action.

The JV portion will feature 15-play series between each team’s first units, followed by 10-play series with the second units. After a short break, the varsity squads will follow the same format before moving into a 12-minute running-clock live quarter.

During the live quarter, teams will start possessions at the 30-yard line with modified rules in place, including no special teams. Coaches and officials will work together to manage penalties and situations, giving players valuable game-like experience ahead of the regular season.

The scrimmage will also give fans their first look at the Longhorns under the lights this fall. Lockney JV will wear red, while varsity will take the field in black. Ropes JV and varsity will both compete in white.

With the regular season just around the corner, Thursday night’s scrimmage offers a first glimpse of the 2025 Lockney Longhorns and the progress they’ve made during summer workouts.
