FLOYDADA – Floydada student Brittney Machado received a special honor in recognition of her outstanding achievement at the state level.

Earlier this summer, Machado traveled to Austin where she was recognized for her second-place essay in the UIL competition. During her visit, she toured the Texas Capitol and met with State Representative and Speaker Dustin Burrows.

In a heartfelt gesture, Speaker Burrows surprised Machado this week by presenting her with the gavel used during a legislative session. The gavel, engraved with her name, symbolizes her hard work and dedication. Along with the gift, she also received a letter expressing how proud the State of Texas is of her accomplishment.

Floydada ISD and the community are celebrating Machado’s achievement, proud to see her represent Texas students with distinction. Her recognition not only highlights her personal success but also serves as an inspiration for students across the state.
