FLOYDADA, TX – Summer is generally viewed as a calm and quiet time for many businesses and organizations, but the Floydada Economic Development Corporation has bucked that trend for the season, working with a number of businesses on improvements and upgrades since June 1.
The summer started in June with grants to Papa’s Burritos and the Floydada Livestock Sales. For Papa’s, that included assistance for marked improvements to their dining area. For the Livestock Auction, the grant went toward rebuilding the scales used to weigh cattle.
One of the biggest economic drivers for the city is agriculture. And even though many of the cotton gins in the county are outside of city limits, they are still part of Floydada’s ‘Extraterritorial Jurisdiction’ when it comes to the economy. With that in mind, in July the EDC granted Darty Gin assistance to upgrade computer equipment used in tracking and storing cotton during harvest.
The EDC also granted improvements to Morales Pumpkins ahead of their harvest season toward construction of new office space.
Last week’s August meeting saw the EDC give two additional grants. One will be to the new Drink Stop on Main toward the purchase of kitchen equipment that will expand the retrofitted store’s offerings. The second was to the Floydada Youth Ironman Football teams as they prepare for their upcoming seasons.
Floydada’s EDC is supported by the city’s sales tax, and their Business Improvement Grant (BIG) program is available for businesses in the city on a reimbursement basis of twenty percent of an overall project. If you are interested in learning more about the BIG, you can contact the EDC at (806) 983-4405 or by emailing Executive Director Ryan Crowe at director@floydadaedc.org.
