LOCKNEY, TX – The Lockney Longhorns claimed the Floyd County Championship on Friday night with a 51-6 victory over the Floydada Whirlwinds at Mitchell-Zimmerman Field.

The win gave the Longhorns county bragging rights for the 2025 season, as they controlled the game on both sides of the ball.

Lockney’s offense found success early, building momentum and putting the game out of reach by halftime.

Floydada continued to battle throughout the contest and broke through in the second half to get on the board. Despite the effort, the Whirlwinds could not slow down Lockney’s attack.

The county rivalry drew a strong crowd, with fans from both schools filling the stands in support of their teams.

Attendance was strong even with steady rainfall throughout the evening, showing the community’s support for one of the state’s longest rivalries.

For the Longhorns (1-1), the championship adds to the excitement around the start of their season, while the Whirlwinds (0-2) will look to regroup as they prepare for district play ahead.
