FLOYDADA, TX – For the first time in decades, both the Floydada Whirlwinds and Lady Winds Cross Country teams have qualified for the Regional Meet. According to former coaches, it’s been since at least the 1990s that Floydada has sent both the boys and girls teams to compete at Regionals — marking a historic milestone for the program.
This year’s Regional Cross Country Meet will take place at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. The Lady Winds will take off first at 12:00 p.m., followed by the Whirlwinds at 12:30 p.m.
The achievement reflects years of steady growth in Floydada’s cross country program, and the community is buzzing with pride and excitement as both teams prepare to represent the Whirlwinds on one of the biggest stages in the region.
If anyone knows exactly when the last time both the boys and girls competed together at Regionals, the athletic department would love to hear from you — this is a moment worth remembering and celebrating!
