FLOYDADA — The Floydada City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening to discuss a variety of city matters, including the official retirement announcement of longtime City Manager Darrell Gooch. The meeting was held at City Hall and opened with an invocation from City Attorney Karen Houchin.
During the public forum, Ryan Crowe reported on recent economic development activity, noting that $48,366.50 in projects had been awarded to local businesses, with EDC funding from the city totaling $145,682.66 for the year.
Council members unanimously approved repealing a no‑parking zone on the south side of Crockett Street, closing the Skatepark bank account, and authorizing an agreement with Parkhill Engineers for pavement rehab work at the Floydada Municipal Airport. They also approved the 2025 Floydada Power & Light Wildfire Mitigation Plan and an interlocal agreement tied to a Community Development Block Grant.
After a brief executive session, the council voted 3–1 to accept Gooch’s retirement, which will take effect January 31, 2026. Councilmember Martin voted against the motion. The council also approved minutes from the previous meeting and authorized September bill payments before adjourning at 7:04 p.m.
