FLOYDADA, TX – The following is a recent Crime Report from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office & Floydada Police Department for October.
October 1st, deputy responded to the 200 block of East Locust regarding a burglary at a residence. The complainant reported that several Invicta watches, a pair of cowboy boots, a Masonic ring, two Citizen watches, a Tag Heuer Aquaracer watch, four Kinetic watches, and four bolo ties made of sterling silver with turquoise and red coral had been stolen from the home.
October 2nd, deputy pulled over a black Ford F-150 for an equipment violation. During the stop, the deputy attempted to detain Francisco Ascencio, 51, the driver of the vehicle, who then became uncooperative and was later arrested for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
October 3rd, deputy pulled over a white Ford Fusion for driving 114 mph in a 75-mph zone. During a consent search, the deputy found less than 2 ounces of marijuana and a fake urine bottle. The driver admitted he planned to use the fake urine for a drug test at work. Mark Esquivel, 30, of Floydada, was arrested for False Drug Test Device and cited for marijuana.
October 4th, a deputy was dispatched to the Longhorn Inn regarding a burglary that had occurred sometime during the night. The complainant believed that juveniles were responsible for the burglary because only snack food items were taken.
October 4th, Floydada Police Officer was dispatched to the 800 block of South Wall Street regarding a 4-year-old child wandering in the middle of the street at 1 a.m. The officer attempted to get the child to point out his home, but the child was nonverbal and was able to make contact with a nearby neighbor, who recognized the child and contacted his grandparents. This case has been presented to the 110th District Attorney’s Office.
October 5th, deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Jeep Cherokee traveling east of US 70 that was swerving across both lanes and nearly driving off into the ditch. After the vehicle stopped, the deputy made contact with the driver and observed signs of intoxication, along with field sobriety test results. Robert Cuba Jr., 28, of Floydada, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.
October 9th, deputies responded to Lockney Middle School regarding two male juveniles making terroristic threats to other students about causing physical harm. An investigation was conducted, and the findings were turned over to the Juvenile Probation Department and the County Attorney’s Office.
October 13th, a deputy took a report at 100 W Locust about a stolen spare tire from the truck bed of the complainant’s vehicle. The complainant said that a white SUV and a Ford crew cab pickup had been parked near their vehicle.
October 13th, Lighthouse Electric reported that an employee had been bitten by a dog in the 1000 block of State Highway 207 while reading meters. The owner was asked to quarantine the animal for ten days.
October 14th, Deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of FM 2301 regarding gunshots fired toward the residence while one of the residents was sitting in the garage. The complainant reported to the deputy that they were unsure where the shots were coming from because they did not see any muzzle flash or vehicles around the area.
October 15th, Floydada Police responded to a dog attack in the 600 block of South Texas Avenue when a 79-year-old male was bitten while he attempted to protect his small dog from a Rottweiler. A passerby noticed the victim on the ground and tried to get the dog off the victim, but was unsuccessful in doing so. So, he grabbed a shovel from his pickup and struck the dog, stopping the attack. The victim suffered some injuries to the hands, legs, and his shoulder. The victim’s small dog also suffered some bite wounds. Animal control was contacted and later impounded the dog at the animal shelter. The owner will have to appear before the Municipal Court to determine if the dog will be classified as a vicious dog.
October 16th, Floydada Police met with a complainant at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office regarding multiple unauthorized charges to her bank account, totaling over $1,000. The charges began after she paid a $6 toll bill, which was later found to be a scam.
October 18th, the Floydada Police responded to a complaint about panhandlers at Dairy Queen. During interaction with one of the individuals, it was found that he was a registered sex offender from Brownfield, Texas. With help from the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Compliance Agent and Brownfield Police, it was confirmed that Servo Roman Flores Jr., 50, of Brownfield, was out of compliance with his registration duties as required by Texas law, and he was arrested for Failure to Comply with registration duties as a sex offender.
October 27th, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Dakota for speeding, 52 mph in a 35-mph zone. During the course of the traffic stop, the vehicle attempted to elude the deputy by turning into residential streets and turning off its headlights, but was unsuccessful in doing so. A juvenile was detained for Attempting to Elude Police, a Class B Misdemeanor, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2 >=1g<4g and Third-Degree Felony.
