LOCKNEY, TX – Lockney Elementary first grade students recently took part in a meaningful Angel Tree shopping experience, giving them a hands-on opportunity to learn about kindness, generosity, and helping others in their community.

The first graders traveled to Walmart, where they were able to personally select and purchase gifts for a senior angel. Rather than simply learning about giving in the classroom, students were actively involved in the entire process, from choosing thoughtful items to understanding the importance of doing something special for someone else. With the support of the Little Longhorn Parent Club, the students were able to purchase gifts for five seniors, making the experience both impactful and memorable.

The outing allowed students to practice responsibility, teamwork, and compassion while seeing firsthand how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. The excitement and care shown by the students reflected the values being taught at Lockney Elementary and highlighted the importance of community involvement at a young age.

These first grade students, led by teachers Jamie Austin and Bethany Landeros, demonstrated that even the youngest members of the Lockney community can play an important role in spreading goodwill and making a positive impact. Through this Angel Tree project, the students not only brightened the holidays for others but also gained a lasting lesson in empathy and service.
