FLOYDADA, TX – The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office has released its December crime report, detailing a range of incidents that deputies responded to throughout Floyd County during the month.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
On December 2, a deputy responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of SW 6th Street. The complainant reported that her son had damaged personal property and initially wished to pursue charges. She later advised deputies that the two had reached an agreement for him to pay for the damages.
On December 3, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a report of sexual assault of a child that allegedly occurred sometime in November. The case remains under investigation.
A runaway juvenile was reported on December 4 from the 600 block of East Locust Street. A 14-year-old female was reported missing from her grandmother’s residence but was later located unharmed at a friend’s home in the 1000 block of SW 6th Street and returned to her grandparents.
On December 11, a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of SW 1st Street in reference to identity theft. The complainant reported that someone in another state was using their personal information to receive government benefits.
A traffic stop on December 13 led to an arrest after a deputy stopped a Chevy Tahoe for a traffic violation. During a probable-cause search, deputies located cocaine and a handgun. Frankie Alvarez Jr., 23, of Tulia, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Another traffic-related arrest occurred on December 18 after a deputy stopped a maroon Chevy Impala with New Mexico registration on US 70 for reckless driving. The driver, Brian Escarcega, 26, of Gallup, New Mexico, was arrested for Reckless Driving and Resisting Arrest.
On December 19, the Sheriff’s Office received notification from Plainview Covenant Medical Center regarding a 23-year-old male admitted with a gunshot wound to the head. Investigation revealed the incident occurred in the 100 block of SW 7th Street in Lockney. With assistance from Texas DPS and Lubbock County SWAT, Sean Malachi Rendon, 21, of Lockney, was taken into custody for Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
Deputies responded to a rollover crash on December 20 in the Aiken community on US 70. The driver reported that a mechanical failure caused the vehicle to overturn. No injuries were reported.
On December 23, Floydada Police responded to the 800 block of West Tennessee Street after a resident reported a window had been damaged by a BB gun.
An ATV accident was reported on December 26 in the 300 block of West Tennessee Street. A 2-year-old child sustained a head injury after the child’s father lost control of the ATV. The child was transported to W.J. Mangold Memorial Hospital. The incident remains under investigation.
On December 29, deputies responded to the 100 block of North Main Street regarding an intoxicated individual found lying on the ground. It was later determined the individual had been assaulted; however, the victim declined to pursue charges.
The final incident of the month occurred on December 30 when deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover near the Aiken community on US 70. The driver was not initially located but was later found attempting to evade law enforcement on County Road 140. Manuel Velasquez Hernandez of Irving was transported to W.J. Mangold Memorial Hospital by Lockney EMS. The case will be submitted to the County Attorney’s Office for possible charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
