FLOYD COUNTY, TX – The 2026 Floyd County Stock Show featured a livestock judging contest that provided participants with an opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge in animal evaluation and selection. Held in conjunction with the annual stock show events, the contest attracted individuals with an interest in livestock production, animal science, and agricultural education.
Contestants were tasked with judging a total of six classes, giving them a well-rounded evaluation experience across multiple species and purposes. The classes included four market hog divisions, one class of breeding gilts, and one class of market lambs. Each class challenged participants to closely examine the animals and rank them according to industry standards, focusing on traits such as structural correctness, muscle expression, balance, and overall quality.
Judging required careful observation and decision-making, as participants compared animals side by side and applied their understanding of livestock evaluation principles. These skills are essential not only in competitive judging environments, but also in real-world livestock production and management.
At the conclusion of the contest, the top three individuals were recognized for their outstanding performance. First place was awarded to Brighton Reese, followed by Carter Duniven in second place and Lillian Luna earning third place. Prizes were presented to the winners in recognition of their preparation, attention to detail, and strong understanding of livestock judging concepts.
The Floyd County Stock Show Board expressed appreciation for the significant time, effort, and dedication invested by the livestock judging coaches throughout the year. Floyd County’s livestock judging teams are coached by Hannah Nixon and Bailey Nutt, whose guidance and commitment play an important role in preparing participants for competition.
The livestock judging contest remains an important educational component of the Floyd County Stock Show. By offering hands-on learning opportunities, the contest helps encourage youth and community members to develop valuable skills related to agriculture, animal science, and responsible livestock selection, while continuing a long-standing tradition within the county stock show.
