Lockney Powerlifting Teams Shine at Home Meet

LOCKNEY, TX – The Lockney High School powerlifting teams delivered strong performances at the Lockney Meet held Thursday, January 8, at the Fieldhouse, with the Lady Longhorns capturing first place overall and the Longhorn boys finishing third in a competitive field.

The Lady Longhorns dominated the girls division, earning first place as a team behind several individual champions. Jasmine Gonzales claimed first place in the 97-pound weight class, while Siya Salazar took first in the 132s. Carly Wright secured first place in the 148-pound division, Zaibrea Caledron finished first in the 220s, and Elliana Jimenez earned first place in the 242-pound class.

On the boys side, the Longhorns finished third overall, highlighted by multiple podium finishes. Kason Villarreal captured first place in the 148-pound weight class, while X’zavien Bernal placed fourth in the same division competing unequipped. Caycen Wright earned first place in the 165s, Esaiel Nunez took third in the 198-pound class, and Carson Pritchard finished first in the 220-pound division.

Coaches and team leaders praised the efforts of both squads, noting the meet was a strong showing for the program. Appreciation was also extended to veteran lifters who assisted with spotting and support throughout the event, as well as the judges who helped ensure a smooth and successful competition.

With the momentum from their home meet, the Longhorns and Lady Longhorns will look to build on their success as the powerlifting season continues.
