FLOYD COUNTY, TX – A countywide burn ban will go into effect in Floyd County following action taken by the Floyd County Commissioners Court earlier this week.
During Monday’s regular meeting, commissioners approved a 90-day burn ban due to ongoing dry conditions and increased fire risk across the county.
The burn ban will begin at 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, immediately after the current seven-day ban expires. The ban will remain in effect through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 13.
While the burn ban is in place, outdoor burning is prohibited, including the burning of brush, trash, and other debris. County officials remind residents that violations of the burn ban may result in fines and legal penalties.
Officials encourage residents to use caution with any activities that could spark a fire, such as welding, outdoor grilling, or driving vehicles on dry grass. Residents are also urged to report any suspicious smoke or fires immediately to local authorities.
The burn ban will be reevaluated by the Commissioners Court if weather and drought conditions improve. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
