LOCKNEY, TX – Lockney Independent School District will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, out of an abundance of caution. This will also move the scheduled basketball games on Tuesday to be played on Wednesday.
Although temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day, district officials cited ongoing concerns about hazardous road conditions as the primary reason for the closure. The decision was made to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families across the district.
At this time, Lockney ISD anticipates a regular school day on Wednesday, January 28. District officials will continue to closely monitor weather and road conditions and will provide updates should plans change.
Basketball games are scheduled to be played Wednesday evening at their normal times.
The instructional day missed on January 27 will be made up on April 6, 2026, in accordance with the district calendar.
Lockney ISD encourages families to stay alert to official communications and to take precautions while traveling. “Please stay safe and warm,” district officials shared.
