
FLOYD COUNTY, TX – The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office has released its January 2026 Crime Report, outlining the following incidents in chronological order:

On January 1st, a deputy responded to the 400 block of NE 2nd Street regarding an individual knocking on the complainant’s windows. While on the scene, the deputy discovered that someone had burglarized the complainant’s storage shed. The deputy later located Adrian Luna in possession of some of the stolen items and took him into custody for Burglary of a building and Criminal Trespass.
On January 2nd, a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of County Road 231 regarding a burglary of a residence. The complainant reported that someone had entered the home and stolen several Kenneth Wyatt sculptures, along with numerous other items. The case is still under investigation.
On January 5th, Floydada Police came upon an individual who was lying partially in the roadway on South 2nd Street and discovered that the individual had been struck by a passing vehicle, as the pedestrian was attempting to cross 2nd Street towards the Bunkhouse motel. The suspect vehicle left the scene of the accident. Floydada Police, with the assistance of witnesses, located the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Antonio Arellano, 53, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Floydada EMS. Bardomiano Rubio, 73, of Floydada, was identified as the driver of the 1992 Grey Mercury Cougar that struck Arellano. This case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution on the charge of Failure to Stop and Render Aid.
On January 7th, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a lost Pomeranian that had been posted on social media. The complainant reported that he received the dog from his nephew and that it had escaped from the backyard. The investigating deputy contacted the individual who received the dog from a third party, but that person refused to return the Pomeranian to its owner. The Sheriff’s Office has turned the case over to the County Attorney’s Office for prosecution for Possession of stolen property.
On January 8th, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office received information from Lockney ISD administration about a Threat to Life posted on social media involving Junior high school students at the LISD. Within the hour, the Sheriff’s Office had taken a male juvenile into custody for Terroristic Threat. This case was referred to Juvenile Probation and the County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
On January 11th, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2024 Kia for speeding on Houston Street in the City of Floydada. The deputy conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located a THC vape pen. Emmanuel Tha Ceulian Liantu, 27, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG 2<1G.
On January 13th, a complainant visited the Sheriff’s Office to report that their mailed check for an invoice was intercepted. It was then mobile-deposited into an unknown person’s account. This case is still under investigation.
On January 14th, a deputy was called out to the 500 block of SW 4th Street regarding a verbal dispute. The complainant reported that another individual had threatened him during a basketball game. This case is pending further investigation.
On January 17th, Floydada Police conducted a traffic stop on a 2025 Jeep Compass for speeding on East Houston Street. The officer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and found marijuana, THC vape, and other drug paraphernalia. The officer also located two handguns in the vehicle. Isaiah Luna, 19, of Plainview, and Jorge Riojas, 21, of Floydada, were both arrested for Possession of Marijuana >2oz and Unlawful carrying of a weapon. The case will be forwarded to the County Attorney’s Office for Prosecution.
On January 18th, as a deputy pulled into the Allsup’s fuel island, he was approached by the store clerk to report a verbal dispute between a Hispanic male and female. The female complainant reported that her boyfriend had taken her phone and asked for its return. As the deputy attempted to make contact with the male, the male ran and hid behind a well motor at Wright’s Automotive. After the deputy tried to detain the individual, who said he might have an active warrant, the person fled but was quickly caught and taken into custody after a brief scuffle, with help from two Good Samaritans.
On January 19th, a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Tan Ford F150 for an equipment violation on FM 97. After the deputy activated the emergency lights, the driver tossed something out the passenger-side window and then attempted to elude the deputy by turning onto County Road 77 and back onto FM 97. The vehicle abruptly stopped, and the driver surrendered to the deputy. The driver, Jonathan Urruita, 42, of Lockney, was taken into custody for Fleeing Police, Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG1>=4G<200G, and tampering with physical evidence after the deputy located a baggie containing a large amount of methamphetamine that had been tossed out the passenger window during the traffic stop.
On January 24th, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a crash in the canyon south of Floydada. When deputies arrived, they found a 2026 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer that had skidded into the guardrail due to icy road conditions. Floydada Fire and the Texas Department of Transportation assisted in directing traffic at the scene. No injuries were reported.
