Floydada City Council Accepts City Attorney Resignation, Continues Search for City Manager

FLOYDADA, TX — The Floydada City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening, February 17, 2026, at City Hall, addressing several personnel matters and administrative items.

Mayor Bobby Gilliland called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Councilmembers present included Bryan Martin, Dana Crossland, Bettye King, and Tate Greer. Councilmembers Gabe de la Fuente and Larron Little were absent. City Manager Darrell Gooch and City Attorney Karen Houchin were also in attendance.

During the meeting, the council entered executive session on three occasions. The first executive session, held under Sections 551.071 and 551.074 of the Texas Government Code, was to discuss the employment of the city attorney. Following discussion, Councilmember Dana Crossland made a motion to accept the resignation of City Attorney Karen Houchin and to hire Underwood Attorney Matt Murry. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Tate Greer and passed unanimously.

The council also met in executive session to discuss city manager applications under Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code. After returning to open session, Councilmember Bryan Martin made a motion to continue accepting applications for the city manager position for an additional month. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Bettye King and approved unanimously.

A third executive session was held to discuss public power utilities regarding competitive matters under Section 551.086 of the Texas Government Code. No action was taken following that discussion.

In other business, the council voted unanimously to move the next regular council meeting from March 17 to March 10, 2026.

The council also approved the minutes from the January 20, 2026 regular meeting, along with payment of January 2026 transfers, fixed expenses, and city bills.

With no further business to consider, Mayor Gilliland adjourned the meeting at 7:44 p.m.
