SWEETWATER, TX – Students from Floydada Collegiate ISD represented their school and community well this week as the junior high KidWind teams competed at a regional event hosted at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater.
The Whirlwind Warriors team delivered an impressive performance, earning 3rd Place overall in the competition. The event brought together students from across the region to showcase their knowledge of wind energy, turbine design, and renewable energy concepts through hands-on challenges and presentations.
In addition to the team’s competitive success, Floydada Collegiate ISD was also honored with the Spirit of KidWind Award, a recognition given to schools that demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, enthusiasm, and dedication to the program’s mission.
KidWind competitions challenge students to design, build, and test small-scale wind turbines while applying real-world science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) principles. The program encourages creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in a competitive yet supportive environment.
School officials praised the students for their hard work, preparation, and positive representation of Floydada throughout the event.
Congratulations to the Whirlwind Warriors and all participating students for a job well done!
