LOCKNEY, TX – Students and staff at Lockney Elementary will join schools nationwide in celebrating Read Across America with a week of literacy-themed activities and dress-up days set for March 3–6. The annual observance promotes a love of reading while recognizing the birthday of renowned children’s author Dr. Seuss.
The four-day celebration at Lockney Elementary will feature daily themes designed to build excitement around books and encourage schoolwide participation:
Tuesday, March 3: Students will wear red, white, and blue in honor of reading, Dr. Seuss, and Texas pride.
Wednesday, March 4: “We Are Wild About Reading” day invites animal print clothing or a favorite stuffed animal.
Thursday, March 5: “Hats Off to Readers” encourages students to wear their favorite hat to school.
Friday, March 6: “Dream Big, Read Big” day highlights future aspirations, with students dressing in college gear or attire representing a future career.
Teachers and staff will incorporate special reading activities and classroom events throughout the week to reinforce literacy skills and foster enthusiasm for books. The themed days aim to create a fun, engaging environment that celebrates reading while strengthening school spirit across the Lockney Elementary campus.
Families are encouraged to support participation in the daily themes and to spend time reading together at home as part of the weeklong celebration.
