FLOYDADA, TX – Several Floydada student musicians earned top honors at the recent UIL solo and ensemble contest, bringing home multiple Division I ratings and securing several state qualifications.

Cheyenne Sawyer earned a Division I rating on her solo and will advance to the state contest.

In ensemble competition, the Trombone Trio made up of Kaydin Logsdon, Vincent Cooper, and Peyton Noland received a Division I rating and qualified for state.

The Low Brass Trio — Angel Olvera, Kanon Rainwater, and Josh Stewart — also earned a Division I rating and secured a spot at state.

Josh Stewart added to his successful day by earning a Division I rating on his solo, qualifying him for state competition in that event as well.

Chris Williams and Nayohmi Garcia both received Division I ratings for their solos. While both performances earned the highest marks from judges, they were not state-eligible entries.

Students advancing will compete at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Lehman High School in Kyle. The state contest is scheduled for May 23–25.

Floydada ISD congratulates these talented musicians on their hard work and accomplishments and wishes them the best as they prepare to compete at the state level.
