LOCKNEY, TX – Students in Mrs. Hooten’s sixth-grade class recently celebrated Chinese New Year with a hands-on cultural experience that brought traditions from across the globe into their classroom.

On Tuesday, February 17, the class marked the holiday by learning about Chinese customs, food, and daily life. As part of the celebration, students sampled traditional Chinese dumplings, known as jiaozi (饺子), and enjoyed hot tea, or re cha (热茶), while practicing their chopstick skills.

In addition to tasting authentic cuisine, students listened to stories and watched videos that offered a glimpse into life and celebrations in China. The interactive lesson gave students an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world cultural experiences.

The event highlighted the importance of cultural awareness and global learning, providing Mrs. Hooten’s class with a memorable and educational way to recognize Chinese New Year.
