FLOYD COUNTY, TX – Law enforcement agencies across Floyd County responded to a variety of calls and incidents during the month of February, ranging from traffic violations and scams to arrests and ongoing investigations.
(Editor’s Note: All individuals named below are considered not guilty unless deemed otherwise in a court of law.)
On February 3, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on US 70 on a 2012 Chevy pickup for an equipment violation. Upon making contact with the driver and gathering the driver’s information, it was later determined that the driver had given the deputy incorrect spelling of his last name after being asked multiple times. The driver was released with a citation for No Driver’s License, and a report was submitted to the County Attorney’s Office for Failure to Identify – Giving False/Fictitious Information on Eduardo Asencio Lopez, 33, of Floydada, Texas.
On February 4, Floydada Police received a call from the 600 block of South 3rd Street regarding damage to a parked vehicle in the complainant’s backyard. When the officer arrived on scene, it was noted that something had struck the rear cab of a 2015 Ford pickup. Further investigation revealed that a wheel and tire had come off a semi-truck trailer traveling north on the Ralls Highway and struck the vehicle as it bounced through several backyards.
On February 5, a complainant met with a Floydada Police officer at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office to report a stolen AR-15 with a Vortex optic valued at $1,500 from their vehicle but was unsure if the weapon had gone missing at his workplace or at his residence. The complainant later reported back to the officer that he had located the firearm.
Also on February 5, a deputy with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an individual possessing child pornography. The case is under investigation.
On February 6, a deputy met with a complainant regarding vandalism to their parents’ headstone at the Floydada Memorial Cemetery. The complainant reported that a sibling had been writing and painting on their parents’ headstone and wanted to file criminal charges against the sibling. The case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
On February 7, Floydada Police responded to the 500 block of W Grover Street regarding a domestic dispute. Once on scene, it was noted that the man involved in the incident had a bloody lip and that the woman was identified as the aggressor. Hope Martinez, 32, of Floydada, was arrested for Assault Family Violence.
On February 14, a deputy patrolling the City of Lockney came across an individual who was staggering down SW 2nd Street. After the deputy made contact with the individual, it was determined that the person was intoxicated. As the deputy attempted to take the individual into custody for Public Intoxication, he refused to comply and began resisting arrest. Eric Estraca, 21, of Lockney, was charged with Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Mischief for damaging a wall in the booking room at the Sheriff’s Office.
Also on February 14, Floydada Police responded to a report of a scam in the 700 block of West Price Street. The victim stated they were falsely informed they had won a 2021 Ford F-150 pickup and that the scammer had obtained their personal information.
On February 14, Anthony Caledron, 37, of Lockney, was arrested on a Floyd County warrant for Terroristic Threat that stemmed from an argument after a basketball game in Lockney.
On February 21, Floydada Police received a complaint from a female DoorDash driver who had accepted an order through the app. She said the customer threatened her, but she did not receive the customer’s location with the order. The officer reached out to DoorDash, but they would not share any details about the phone number used for the order. This case is still under investigation.
On February 23, Floydada Police received a report of a scam involving a rental property advertised on Facebook. The complainant contacted the person she believed owned the property and paid a security deposit and the first month’s rent. After payment, the individual stopped all communication. It was later determined that the Facebook post had been reused by an unknown scammer.
Also on February 23, Floydada Police met with a complainant in the 200 block of South Main Street regarding damage to the window pane of their building. The complainant believed someone had backed into the building’s window. The officer checked with surrounding businesses to locate any security camera footage, but none was found.
On February 24, a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of County Road 189 regarding a verbal dispute that involved several individuals. The complainant reported that he had also been pursued by the other individuals and threatened with a firearm. This case is still under investigation.
On February 26, a deputy responded to a report of Theft of Service in the 2000 block of FM 378. The complainant said a load of roofing materials was delivered to Humble, Texas, as requested by an outside salesman for a Lubbock-based roofing company. The complainant stated their company had not received payment for the delivery. Later, the complainant found out that both their business and the building material supplier had been scammed. This case is still under investigation.
On February 27, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of South 3rd Street in Floydada for an equipment violation. Once the vehicle came to a stop, a passenger identified as Alvin Cooper fled on foot. Deputies located Alvin Cooper, 58, of Floydada, and placed him under arrest for Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The passenger Josue Everado Cruz-Martinez, 39, of Floydada, was also arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
