LOCKNEY, TX – The Lockney High School Band has once again achieved top honors, earning the prestigious UIL Sweepstakes Award following a successful performance at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest.
Band members received straight Division I ratings from all judges in both the Concert and Sight-Reading portions of the contest. The top ratings, combined with the band’s earlier Division I rating in the marching contest, secured the UIL Sweepstakes Award for the program.
The honor marks the fourth consecutive year that the Lockney High School Band has earned the Sweepstakes distinction. The award is presented to bands that receive Division I ratings in Marching, Concert, and Sight-Reading during the same school year, representing the highest level of achievement in the UIL band program.
Students in the Lockney band have spent months preparing for the contest, refining their concert selections and strengthening their musicianship throughout the school year. In the sight-reading portion of the event, the band demonstrated their ability to perform an unfamiliar piece of music after only a short preparation period.
The continued success of the Lockney High School Band reflects the dedication of its student musicians and directors, as well as the strong tradition of excellence that has long been part of the Lockney band program.
With another Sweepstakes Award added to its history, the 2025–2026 Lockney High School Band continues to make the community proud with its commitment to musical excellence.
