LUBBOCK, TX – Students from Floydada Collegiate ISD showcased their innovation and engineering skills this week as multiple KidWind teams earned top honors during competition at Texas Tech University.

Competing against a strong field that included high school teams, Floydada’s junior high students proved they could rise to the challenge.

The Texas Turbines team, made up of junior high competitors who competed in the high school division, delivered an impressive performance. The team earned 2nd place in Circuitry and 2nd place in the Building Instant Challenge, demonstrating both technical knowledge and quick problem-solving ability.

The Whirlwind Wizards, another junior high team, also turned in a strong showing. They captured 1st place in Circuitry and finished 3rd overall, highlighting their consistency across multiple events.

Rounding out the success, the Whirlwind Warriors dominated their categories, earning 1st place in Circuitry and 1st place in the BTAC Challenge, one of the competition’s key events.

KidWind competitions focus on renewable energy and wind turbine design, encouraging students to apply STEM concepts in hands-on ways. Floydada’s results reflect not only technical skill, but also teamwork, creativity, and dedication.

The strong performance at Texas Tech underscores the continued growth of Floydada Collegiate’s STEM programs and the students’ ability to compete at a high level—even against older competitors.
