FLOYDADA, TX – The Floydada Volunteer Fire Department remained active throughout March, responding to a variety of fire-related incidents both locally and through mutual aid across the region.
According to the department’s monthly report, firefighters answered a total of nine calls during the month, with the majority involving grass fires, a common occurrence during the early spring season in West Texas.
Several of the calls required mutual aid assistance, highlighting the department’s ongoing cooperation with neighboring communities. Early in the month, crews responded to a grass fire near Mackenzie Lake in Briscoe County alongside Silverton firefighters. Additional mutual aid responses included fires near Petersburg, Flomot, and Dickens.
Within Floydada and the surrounding area, firefighters handled multiple grass fires, including incidents at Annie Taylor Park, along FM roads, and a fire reported along U.S. Highway 70 just north of town.
In addition to grass fires, the department also responded to a vehicle fire on North Street on March 20.
The report underscores the continued risk of wildfires during dry and windy conditions, as well as the importance of regional teamwork in managing larger incidents. Officials encourage residents to remain cautious with outdoor burning and to report any signs of fire immediately.
The Floydada Volunteer Fire Department continues to serve the community with dedication, providing rapid response and support both locally and across neighboring counties when needed.
